What is a Makerspace? A DIY space where students can come together and use tools and materials to learn, invent and create. The HES Media Center uses a mobile Makerspace approach where materials and tools are on a portable cart that can be moved and changed when necessary.
Why have a Makerspace? A Makerspace exposes students to important life skills such as problem solving, teamwork, and creative and strategic thinking. Makerspaces also prepare students for 21st century careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Although all students at HES have time to work with makerspaces, 5th grade students at HES have the opportunity to further their makerspace experiences by electing to participate in a special club that focuses on these skills.
